Newarkers are transforming vacant lots into community gardens in all five wards. The City’s vacant lots are being Cleaned and Greened by crews working with the Greater Newark Conservancy and the Urban League of Essex County. These crews remove trash, provide landscaping, and participate in skill-building programs as part of a paid transitional job experience for people coming home to Newark from incarceration.
Once the lots are cleaned, they can be adopted for $1/year through the Adopt-a-Lot program which recently celebrated its 30th anniversary. For more info, visit the Adopt-a-Lot page.
