2016 Meeting Dates for Landmarks & Historic Commission

All Landmarks & Historic Preservation Commission meetings are held on the following Wednesdays at 6:15 pm in the Council Chambers, Newark City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey. All are welcomed to attend.

Meetings are usually held on the first Wednesday of each month, except for the months of January and July, or as otherwise noted. The full schedule of the 2017 Office of the Boards meetings can also be downloaded here.

Completed applications submitted for approval of a permit are considered timely if they are submitted a minimum of fourteen (14) days prior to the Commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting (Newark Zoning & Land Use Regulations, Sec. 40:10-13-2).  An application shall not be scheduled until deemed complete by the Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission office.

Class A – Two members who are knowledgeable in building design and construction or architectural history.

Class C – Five members who must reside in Newark and hold no other municipal office, position, or employment except for membership on the Central Planning Board or the Zoning Board of Adjustment.

Do you own historic property?

In an effort to protect Newark’s architectural and historic heritage, individual buildings and larger districts have been designated as historic, and may be placed on the local, state and national register of historic places. Owners of these properties have certain preservation and upkeep responsibilities.
