City vehicles such as sanitation trucks operate next to homes and schools. The cleaner they are, the better for local air quality. Newark has begun to turn over its fleet by investing in five Compressed Natural Gas sanitation trucks both to reduce local pollution and to save money on gasoline. The trucks will fuel at a station located at the Covanta waste processing facility on Raymond Boulevard.
Savings on fuel, maintenance, and operations on these trucks will help fund additional alternative fuel purchases.
